engine air-inlet vortex destroyer

A small jetstream directed downward from the leading edge of the nose cowl to the ground to destroy the swirling vortex base. When gas turbine engines are operating on the ground, an engine air-inlet vortex can sometimes form between the engine air inlet and the ground. This vortex can cause a strong suction force capable of sucking in objects on the ground and damaging the engine. The engine air-inlet vortex destroyer minimizes this risk.

Jetstream from the leading edge of the engine is directed toward the ground. It counters the strong suction force created by air-inlet vortex that may form between the air inlet and ground.
